Frequently Asked Questions

Q: what's the advantage of having an Organizer in FileMaker Pro ?

Because it's made in FileMaker Pro, it's a multi-user, cross- and mixed-platform tool, to which you can easily add your own and/or custom FileMaker Solutions (also see ecOrganizerCustom). Even as a single-user, stand-alone application, ecOrganizer is more than just an Organizer because of the extra modules for generating quotes and invoices, as well as time and cost registration.

Q: how easy is it to add my own and/or custom built FileMaker solution to ecOrganizer ?

The best way of showing you how easy this is, is through an example. We have used an NPGA (Dutch Professional Golf Association) tournament to demonstrate this capability. The download contains example files, instructions as well as an in-depth explantion of ecOrganizer's data structure. Download here: Mac or Windows

Q: can I get a password that allows full access ?

You have full access to the data files (ecContacts, ecActions & ecTransactions) as well as layout modification access to the print file (ecPrint). For more information, please refer to the help topic 'Access to data files' in the built-in help function in ecOrganizer (or through Help - Contents -> Setting up ecOrganizer/System Preferences/Access to data files). The interface or structure files (ecOrganizer & ecCalendar2) are locked. The advantage of not being able to access these files, is that you will be able to benefit from the continuous updates to ecOrganizer. In order to add your own and custom FileMaker solutions, we've developed ecOrganizerCustom. This template is the bridge between ecOrganizer and other FileMaker Pro templates, and you have full access to this template. You can activate additional tabs in the Companies, Person and Project layouts through the ecCustom module, which is built into ecOrganizer.

Q: do you offer Palm OS support ?

We're currently working on our beta of ecSync for PalmOS. We're implementing VizMotion's VizSync technology to synchronize contacts between ecOrganizer and PalmOS' native applications, being: Address, Date Book, Memo Pad and To Do List. We will soon be looking for beta testers to test both the single-and multi-user Mac OS (Classic) version of ecSync to synchronize contacts between ecOrganizer and Palm's Address. The Windows and Mac OS X versions will soon follow.

Q: I'm running FileMaker 5.5 on Mac OS X. I'm considering ecOrganizer. Do you anticipate any problems?

No, apart from the fact that you will have to wait for some functionallity (appointments, alarm and external file function) until the FileMaker Pro plugins (File and Activator plugin) are ported to the MacOS X platform. I anticipate that this is a matter of 1 or 2 months (status on May 20th).
